Help & FAQ

A fasting timer. That’s it. Here’s how it works.

If your question isn’t answered here, email us — see Contact at the bottom.

Getting started

How do I start a fast?

Tap Start on the timer screen. Pick a preset — 16:8, 18:6, 20:4, OMAD, or 5:2 — or set a custom fast length. The ring fills as you go; tap it to switch between elapsed, remaining, and percent.

How do I end a fast?

Tap End Fast. If you finished early or late, the end time is editable right there — no need to fix it later.

Can I change my goal, or when I actually started?

Yes, any time, even mid-fast. There’s an “Adjust start time” link right on the timer screen for when you started fasting before you opened the app. No lectures either way.

Fixing your history

This is the thing Nistis is built around. Every fasting app makes logging mistakes — Nistis is the one that lets you fix them. It’s free, ungated, and it’s about two taps.

I forgot to start or stop the timer — now what?

Nothing is lost. Edit the start time on an active fast from the timer screen, or edit the start and end times of a fast after you’ve ended it, from History.

How do I edit or delete a past fast?

Open History, tap the day. Every field — start, end, goal, note — is editable. Swipe to delete.

How do I log a fast I never started in the app?

Tap an empty day in History, add the fast, done. That’s the whole backfill flow.

Can I add notes to a fast?

Yes, an optional note field is available on every fast, past or present.

Do edits mess up my streak?

No. Streaks are never adjusted by hand — they always recompute automatically from your fast history after any edit, backfill, or delete. Fix the data and the streak takes care of itself.

Fasting stages

What does the stage chip or timeline show?

A simple timeline of the stages commonly associated with fasting, counted from your last meal: digesting, post-absorptive, glycogen depletion, fat burning, ketosis ramp, and deep ketosis/autophagy-associated. It’s descriptive, not prescriptive — the language is deliberately hedged.

Is this medical advice?

No. Nistis is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice or diagnose, treat, or claim any health outcome. Talk to a clinician before you start fasting, especially if you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or take medication.

Widgets, Live Activity, and Apple Watch (Pro)

What are they?

A home-screen widget shows your current fast’s progress at a glance. Live Activity puts the same ring, elapsed time, and stage on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while a fast is running. The Apple Watch app lets you start, end, and check a fast from your wrist, with complications for your watch face.

What’s free and what’s Pro?

One home-screen widget (ring + elapsed) is free. Additional widget styles, lock-screen widgets, Live Activity and Dynamic Island, and the Apple Watch app with complications are Pro.

Where do I turn these on?

Add the widget from your Home Screen or Lock Screen the way you’d add any iOS widget (long-press an empty area → Edit → add widget → Nistis). Live Activity appears automatically when a Pro user starts a fast. Install the Watch app from the Watch app on your iPhone.

Sync (Pro)

How does sync work?

Nistis can sync your data across your devices using your private iCloud database — there’s no Nistis account and no Nistis server involved. Turn it on in Settings.

What happens if I’m offline?

The app works fully offline whether sync is on or not. Changes made offline sync automatically the next time you’re online.

What if I edit the same fast on two devices?

Edits merge. Your data never corrupts, and streaks always recompute from the merged set of fasts — a sync merge can never eat a streak.

Your data

Where is my data stored?

On your device, always. iCloud sync (Pro, optional) mirrors it to your own private iCloud database, which only your devices can read.

Can I export my data?

Yes, any time, from Settings — a full-fidelity JSON export or a CSV export. Both are yours to keep.

Can I import from another fasting app?

Yes — Nistis’s own CSV/JSON, Zero’s CSV export, or a generic CSV with column mapping. Import is a Pro feature, but your first import is free so you can move your history over before deciding.

How do I delete my data?

Delete individual fasts from History any time. Deleting the app removes everything stored locally, and its iCloud data too if you had sync on — those are the only two places your data ever lives.

What does “we collect nothing” actually mean?

No analytics, no ad SDKs, no tracking, no crash reporting, no account, no email collection. The only network calls the app ever makes are to Apple — StoreKit/RevenueCat for purchases and your own private iCloud for sync. See the privacy policy for the complete list.

Free vs Pro

Free is a genuinely complete timer: the timer and all presets (16:8, 18:6, 20:4, OMAD, 5:2) plus custom fasts, unlimited history with full editing/backfill/delete, the fasting-stage timeline, start/end/goal notifications, streaks and basic stats, one home-screen widget, and light/dark mode. The timer itself is never paywalled.

Pro adds the Apple Watch app and complications, Live Activity and Dynamic Island, every widget style including lock-screen widgets, Apple Health sync for weight and water, advanced stats (trends, completion rate, weight overlay), CSV/JSON export and import from other apps, custom fast schedules, and extra accents and icons.

How much does Pro cost?

$2.99 a month, $14.99 a year (with a 7-day free trial), or $29.99 once for the lifetime unlock — no subscription required. Pay once and it’s yours for life.

I switched phones — how do I get Pro back?

Settings → Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID you originally purchased with.

Troubleshooting

The timer or Live Activity isn’t updating.

Open the app to refresh it. Live Activities update on their own, but very long fasts can occasionally go stale near iOS’s refresh limit — opening the app resets it.

My widget shows the wrong time.

Widgets display relative time and should stay accurate without any background refresh. If one gets stuck, remove it and re-add it from the widget gallery.

Sync seems slow or stuck.

iCloud sync depends on your network and Apple’s own sync queue, so it isn’t always instant. Toggle sync off and back on in Settings, and confirm iCloud Drive is enabled for Nistis in your device’s iCloud settings.

Restore Purchases isn’t finding my purchase.

Make sure you’re signed into the same Apple ID used for the original purchase, then try Settings → Restore Purchases again. If it still fails, contact us — see below.
